For the most part, people believe that charities and non-profit organizations are one and the same thing. That is wrong. While both of them in a broad sense are not-for-profit, often times, setting up a non-profit organization is the first step towards becoming a charity. Perhaps the major difference between a non-profit and a charity is that the former cannot issue receipts for donations while the latter can. I help my clients in setting up non-profit corporations and registering them with Canada Revenue Agency as a charity. I have extensive experience in setting up non-profit corporations and registering charities with CRA. I also advise clients’ on other aspects of charities law to ensure that they maintain charitable status.
